Living, evolving installation

Déracinés

House plants moved into hostile environments: a living metaphor of exile.

Common house plants, already uprooted from their habitat to become decoration, are placed in artificial, unsuitable environments. Through plants, the installation speaks of immigration, exile and forced adaptation, without depicting a human body.

The room is divided into five zones: Assimilation, white pots lined up under neon light; Transit, suitcases, boxes, plastic bags and spilled soil; Suffocation, jars, bell jars and condensation; Display, marble and chrome, plants lit like luxury objects; Survival, natural soil, raw wood and soft light.

Over three months the plants genuinely react: some adapt, others warp or wither, others overrun their space. Visitors never see the same exhibition twice.
