Performance

La Mort d'un Artiste

The artist lies down in a coffin: a ceremony about posthumous recognition.

In a darkened museum room: a lit coffin, four tall candles, four guards and a monumental crucifixion, gilded on burnt wood. Guests, dressed in black, each receive a pot of blue, red, yellow or black paint.

The artist enters in a white tunic and long cape, looking at no one. The audience throws paint onto his cape, a figure of criticism and indifference. His heartbeat is heard; the guards lay him in the coffin and the beating stops. Wreaths bearing the names of institutions, the State, family and friends are laid down to Mozart's Requiem.

The lights return and reveal the canvases on the walls, in primary colours; the music changes. The evening ends with a conversation with the audience.
