In the middle of a large empty room stands a mountain of wheat: one grain for each of the 8,250,000,000 human beings alive on Earth. The statistic becomes real, visible, almost overwhelming matter. The floor is covered with grain, the light stays warm and minimal; the space feels at once like a granary, a sacred place and a memorial.
Throughout the project, wheat is added, moved and weighed. The counting is deliberately impossible on a human scale: it would take almost 261 years to count to 8,250,000,000.
At the end, the wheat is milled into flour and baked into bread, given free of charge to people in need. The work leaves the exhibition space for social reality, and asks a simple question: how can a world able to feed billions still let human beings die of hunger?
